MAJOR MIPGET On Nov. il, at Whitby, Fcrrco Engineering edged Oshawa Jacket Man 7-6 with two goals each by Darreli 1ll#agquiere, and Charlie Sun Life Bonspilel gets'under'w-ay Saturday, November 18 saw the beginning of the Sun Life Invitational 'ï Curling l3onspiel at the Whitby CurI-- ing Club. <If the first day of the competition is any indication of the type of play that is to be expected in the next two weekends, a great deal of excitement will be provided for the spectators. The two big winners of the day was Hon Manning's, team from the Terrace and Joe Jurowka's team, from Dixie Curling Club. Both won ail three 10 end games and will advance 'to the first event with a chance to win $3,000.00 In the 3rd game Gurowka came up against Wayne Steski of Guelph. The game was tied 6-6 at the end of the lOth when Gurowka's last rock hit and rolled out of the house. In the llth end he ,drew in to the house to beat Steski's rock by about an ince - an exciting way to win a game. Gary Rusconi of Humber Highland, had a dissappoint- ing day and. won only one game. Paul Savage beat his handily 8-1 after only 6 ends of play. Savage won his second" game againist' John Martin of Avonlea 8-3 and lost his 3rd to Ron Manning 8-7. Two game wInners for the day were Paul Savage, Wayne Steski, Ross Harrison of the Royals and Bob Charlebois of f)undas Valley. Scoring went as follows. In the first draw Paul Savage beat Gary Rusconi 8-1. John Martin, Avonlea won against Clark l3ullock, Richmond Hill 6-5; Annandale's Craig Garratt beat Hon Ennis of Whitby 9-2, Ron Manning trimmed Ross Harrison of the Royals 7-2. In the 2nd draw Joe Gurowka came against Earle Hushagen of Humber Highlands and won 5-2. Tom- Steen of Oshawa, in a wide open game beat Ken Thomp- son of Highlands 11-8. Wayne Steski of Guelph beat1 Bob Denney of Guelph 8-5. Charlebois lost to Bob Widdis of Humber Highland 2-6, In the second game of the first draw Savage beat Martin 8-3, Garratt lost to Manning 2-7, Rusconi, in a tight game beat Buflock 6-5 and Ennîs was beaten by Harrison 8-0. In the second game of the second draw Gurowka was victorious agaînst Tom Steen 7-3, Widdis was defeated by Dave Miller and Doug' -Clifford competes against B3arry Mitchell of the Royals and Jim Sharples of Leaside versus Shorty Jenkins of C.F.B.
