Bonspiel * beglns on, Saturdjay One of Ontario's, premier curling bonspeils, the Sun Life Invitational, gets under- way Saturday 'morning at the Whitby Curling Club. A total of 64 rinks will vie for $12,000 in prize money with $3,000 going to1 the winner. This season will mark the 12th, year of this bonspiel, formerly known, as the Ontario Dunlop Bonspiel. If tradition remains the same àis in the past, the eventual winner will neyer have won the Sun Life be fore although three defending champions have reached the finals. Former winners of this bonspiel include Earl Hushagen, Earl Morris, Ron Northcott, Alf Phillips, Jr., Bill Creber, Ted Brown, Bruce Munroe,. Bill Kent, Alan Coomb, Doug Grant, Earl Morris, Jim Sharpies. LourDugre, from Ottawa, wînner in 1977, will be back this year to defend bis title. There will be clubs repre- senting Durham Region in the Sun Life, 3 from Annan- dale Pickering, 1 from Port Perry, 4 from Oshawa and 4 from Whitby. Winners of the Dawn Spiel held November 4 at Whitby were Don Jenkins' rink from Oshawa and Ronnis' team from Whitby. Both teams, by virtue of winning, the Dawn Spiel, will gain free entry into the Sun Life. Representing the Whitby Curling Club will be Charlie Fisher, Ron Camteron, Clay- ton MacKay and Ron Ennis. Competing from Anandale is Bob Fedosa, Craig Garratt and Bill Creber. Out of Oshawa Curling Club is Tom Steen, Bob Walker, John Luke and Rich Vesey. Denney, Barrie; Bobý Widdïs, Humber Highland, Joe Gurowka, Dixie; Bob Charlebois, Dundas Valley; and Wayne Steski, Guselph. Other dates of competition is Saturday, November 25, Sunday, November 26, Friday, December 1 and the finals will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2, 6:30 p.,n., where the eventual wlnur of the Sun Lite wlil be dote,.
