WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1978, PAGE 19 C <OMING E VENTS WELSH HYMN FESTIVAL A Welsh hymn festival called a Gymanfa Ganu will be held at All Saints' Angli- can Church, Dundas Street West, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m: In this festival, the congre- gation is conducted as a choir, in four parts. The hymns to be sung are old and well-known, such as Cwm Rhondda, Diadem and Ebenezer. Hymn sheets will be provided which contain the words in both Welsh and English. - On this occasion, All Saints' will welcome the Rector and congregation of Dewi Sant (St. David's) Welsh United Church, Toronto. The conductor will be Glyn Roberts of Dewi Sant. All Saints' has hosted simi- lar events in the past, and on one occasion, St. John the Evangelist, Whitby, acted as host. Mrs. Siciliano, of St. John's will be the soloist on this occasion. She was trained in La Scala, Milan, and has sung at the New York Met. DANCE 'A Positive Outlook', an Oshawa based musical group will present a dance at the UAW Hall Friday, Nov- ember 24 with proceeds to be donated to the South Durham Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society. Entitled 'TOP HAT', the dance will feature music to suit every taste. Within its repertoire, the dance group puts the accent on light rock, current ballads and Disco. However the group'will also perform many contempor- ary standards. All members of 'A Positive Outlook' live in Oshawa, and the instrumentation is made up of keyboàrds (including organ, piano, synthesizer and string ensemble), guitar, bass, drums, and a bit of trombone for some- thing different. A free performance for senior citizens will be held Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The play is directed by Terrill Stewart, who will be remembered for his perfor- mance as the messanger in last season's production of 'God's Favorite.' MUSICAL PRESENTATION The Huggett Family, acclaimed as one of the world's outstanding musical families will be apprearing at the Whitby Public Library Dec. 4. This family has performed for enthusiastic audiences in London, Paris, Greece and across North American, including the summer of 1978 at the Shaw Festival at Niagara-on-the- Lake.
