Gartshore congratulated by council Just as the Town Council began work Monday Council- lor Gerry Emm rose on a point of privelege and said he would like to make a few remarks before the Council began the more serious busi- ness of the evening. Councillor Emm stated lie would like to congratulate Mayor Jim Gartshore on his return to office. 'The Mayor has been returned to the office of Mayor by acclaimation, he is to be, congratulated and we are honored and happy that Jim Gartshore has been returned to another term of Office with such little effort. We hope he will enjoy his coming term of office as much as we have enjoyed the pleasure of working with him.' said Councillor Emnm. Employment report The number of clients unemployed and registered for work at t.he Canada Employnient Centres in Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa for the month of 'September totalled 9,750, consisting of 5,672 femnale and 4,078 maIe clients. Placements in the three offices totalled 582 for the month, which compares to a total of 1,083 placements during August. The majority of clients were registered in Clerical and related; Sales; Service; Product Fabricating; Assembling and Repairing; Construction Trades; and Material- Handling andRelated. During September, the, greatest employment opportunities existed in Accommodation and Food Servaices, Retail Trade, and Construction. In September, there 20 agreements signied under the Canada Manpower Industrial Training Pro- gram. As a result, 32 people will benefit from both training and employment in the Region of Durham. At the end of September, there were 199 students ini the skill courses sponsored by the Canada Employment Centre and 70 people receiving academie upgrad- ing at Durham College.
