"These are key people because of their direct patient contact, and we hope to broaden our scope to teach everybody," she explained. Or, as Mrs. Gmitrowicz puts it, "Students must do a lot of practice on their own froc time." Those who do qualify af ter the CPR- course are issued certificates fromn the Ontario lijart Foundation. But students must first achieve 85% on an examina- tion, and if they fail, must rewrite the examination - and even after passing the examination, those who qualify must be re-eertified every year. The underlying purpose of certification is to maintain an adherence to uniform national staindards established or recognized by the American Ueart Associa- tion and the Canadian Heart Foundation. Until the emergence of Resuci-Ann in North Amýerica in 1961, there was no standard method of proper resuscitation and no certificate procedure. Jaycees take honors The Whitby Jaycees did well at the recent Jpiycee national conventiofi in Vancouver B.C. .Whitby received the Blue Chipaward and Presidential Award of Excellence, and received several awards for albums on the unit's activities. In albums, Whitby placed first in youth activities, and Clinies cancelled Dr. J.K. Gray, Medical Officer of Uealth from the Durham Regional Uealth Unit reports, ail recal immunization clinics have been cancelled throuighout Durham Region.
