Christmas Seals provide a day camp Durham Region Lung Association opened its first- ever Christmas Seal Day Camp for Asthmatic Child- ren on Monday July 10, at Camp Samac, Oshawa. The Camp will operate for two weeks, and a total of 23 children, aged between 6 and 10 years are currently enrolled. The children, al suffering f rom severe asthma or other allergic problems, come f rom Oshawa, Ajax, Bowman- ville, Ashburn, Pickering, Port Perry and Whitby. The main 'objective -of the Camp is to dernonstrate that asthmatic children can, and should, be encouraged to partîcipate fully in regular summer activities. Many such children, either because of their own fears, or those of their parents, miss out on many of the pleasures of an ordinary childhood. The Lung Association hopes' to demonstrate, through this Camp experience, that with only a littie extra care asthmatic children can participate as fully as the non-asthmatic child. Situated in two log cabins at Camp Samac, children at the Christmas Seal Day Camp will participate in al the usual activities of Camp life; cookouts, nature trails, water sports, country crafts etc., under the direction of three professional Camp st- ff and a Registered Nurse.
