Plans are for the unit to deopserv 'ices in four phases. In the first phase, al out-patient and day ,care psychiatric services will be offered directly to tie community, on the basis of identified, needs, from a centrally co-ordinated locat- ion. The second phase includes the dèvelopment of commun- ity clinics in areas where psychiatrie services are limited or -inaccessible. A community consulting service w ill be provided by a multi-disciplinary team. The next phase incorp- rates central co-ordination of existing after care services to discharged patients to enable the patients to enjoy the privilege of social inter. ation and independence in the community. The unit will have to establish channels of communication and infor- mation to accomplish these objectives, since community education is visualized as the key role and responsibility of the hospital. The ultimate success of the community services unît wiil depend on the joint endeavors of the hospital and the, community, say hospital officiais.
