The Company* has ap- pealed a 1977 rollback by the Anti-Inflation Board -that re- duced to eight per cent -aver- age wage hikes in the firsE haif of a two-year agreement with 175 production workers, mnembers of' United, Auto Workers Local 1090. The contract caîls for 13 percent in the, first year wchCroven was already paying its employees by the time a judgement was pas- sed by the AIW in nii4-Sep- tember 1976. Last June workers walked off the job for three days when Croven refused to in- crease wages the 6.34 per cent called for ira he con- tract's second year. The company and the union managed to- renego- tiate a settiement, decreas- ing the hike by haif, pending, a final ruling of the legality of the wage mereases by the Last month the board ac- cepted Cioven's appeal but referred it to the AIB's ad- ministrator for final ruling. The company hopes to have the matter settled be- fore the current contract ex- pires June 1 this year. The ruling would affect only the first year of the two-year nact. and if the appeal is not upheld, workers may have to give back part of their wage increase to the government. The announcement was miade last week by Robert A. Brown; execut ive vipoe presi- dent of Firestone -Canada L td.-ýLt ee. Mr. Patton joined, fire- stone in Akron, Ohio in 1951. His 27 years experience in the tire manufacturing in- dustry includes manage- ment positions in Akron, Ohio and Wilson, North Caro- lina. Since 1973 he has-served as production, manager for Firestone's tire manufactur- ing plant ii" Wilson, N.C. Mr.1 Patton received bis Bachelor of Science in Indus-, trial Management from the University of Akron in 1960.ý His appointment is effec- tive immediately.
