Six Whitby girls are ex- amples of what, the Guide program can do foryoung people. They all started as Brownies at the age of 10> went on to Guides, received their Ail-Round, Cords in 1976, and in 1977, received the Canada Cord, thehighest award ini Guiding. Somne are now Ii Rangers or Cadets, a brandi, of G;uid-ý ing for older- girls, and ail are involved-i some kind of commuruity service work. Karen Childs, a Grade 9 studenit at Henry Street Iligh School, is a Brownie assistant leader on a part-time. basis and is, on caîl to lier own company and Guide leaders when needed. Karen Freek, another Grade 9 student at H-enry Street High School belongs to, a famnily which bas been involved in Scouting and Guiding in Whitby for more than 20 years. She is current- ly helpinig her sister through the Guiding program. Karen assists local Brownie and Guide comp anles and la' looking for a future i leader- ship. D She works at theDr Ruddy Hospital in the gift shop and delivering flowers., She also serves dinhe rs ,--to senior ciitens at the Knights of Colurubus hall in connec- tion withthe Meals Without Wheels prograni. Debbie Sullivan,- also',in. Grade 9 at Henry Street High School, is an active Ranger and assists in a Whitby Guide company. She niakes favors fortrays -for Meals on Wheels and de- livers mnail' and cheers up patients at the Dr. Ruddy Hospital. Nancy Rivettý is a Grade 10 student, at Anderson Col- legiate. She is a- member of the Anderson and Whitby Curling Clubs, .enjoys swim- miing, plays trombone in the Intermediate- school 'band,- and has taken piano lessons to Grade 6. She is also availa- ble to assist heï Guide com- pany. Lynn Fagen came' to Whitby from Scarborougli in January 1977, and is ini Grade. 9 at Henr.y Street High School.
