The award, part of a new GM customner satisfaction programn, is being used across Canada to upgrade auto service dealérships. Dealers qualify for 12 modules in various fields. Mr. Brownhas recieved bis module for customer relations and has qualified for the quality control module. He is presently working for bis service business operat ons'module..Mr. Brown is one of the first dealers in the Durham Region to receive the Select Service Award. Town gýraùnts are-frozen The Town of Whitby has frozen its recreationial grants, and wil gradually phase out most of them by 1983.' The town bas agreed that ahl grants remnain frozen at 1977 figures, with the excep- tion of mninor hockey, figure skating and the Durham YMCA. Commencing in 1979 the grants wil be reduced by 20 per cent -annually. and con- tinue, on this basis over- the next.four years until' the grants are deleted entirely in 1983. Rather than give a grant which is paid back to the town for ice time, the minor hockey and figure skating as- sociations will be allowed a preferred rate, and on this basis, will .receive the same grant in 1978 as in 1977. The Durham YM?2A bud- get will be frozen at the 1977 budget figure for a three-year period, at which time the buçiget will be reviewed.
