The Jaycess are well on their way -in mnaking prepara- tions for tUis year's Santa Clans parade and President Mike Burgess expects it to be a real attraction. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at Denis O'Connor High School and follows Giffard and Cochrane Streets to Dundas Street, along Dundas, and south on Brock Street to the Dominion Plaza. Mar- shalling tirne for floats and bands is 9:30 a.m. Trophides and cash prizes xiii be awarded to the en- trants -for best floats and majorette groups. After the parade the Santa House will be opened by the Jaycees in the same location as last year, 131 Brock Street North, beside the Brock Theatre. Here, children will have an opportunity to talk to Santa Claus about their Christmas wishes. A good turnout of floats is expected and further details on hours of the Santa House issue. YMCA' gets grant The Durham Region Family YMCA, based in Whitby, has received a Canada Works grant from the federal government to carry out a prograrn in Ajax and Pickering. The program, Prescrip- tion--Fitness for Living, will provide four -major program activities to assist community motivation and individual ad- tion in the area lof personal fitness, says Norm. Cafik Minister of State for Multi- culturalism, who announced the grant last week. Lynde, a rùiember of an old Whitby pioneer family, died Nov. 12 at the Englehart and District Hlospital at the age of 69. A resident of Englehart Ontario for 18 years, Mr. i.ynde was borni at Whitby, June 10, 1908, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John J. Ly iide. Mr. Lynde xvas principal of the high school at Engle- hart, and retired in 1973 after teaching for 29 years. H-e xvas past president of Association of Ontario District 5. Mr. Lynde is survived by his wife, the former Audrey Taylor, whoni lie m.irried Dec. 11 , 1938 at Bowmian- ville; two daughiters. Avril of Toronto and Cynthia at home; two sons, Wayne and Robin, of Oshawa, and four grandchildren. A brother Arthur Lynde, died in 1952. Funeral services were held Nov. 15 at W. C. Town Funeral Chapel, Whitby, with Rev.John Smith of St. Marks' United Church officiating Interment followed in Grove- side Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Ontario Heart Fund would be appreciated. A HEAVY TR Dave and Pam Carey and Brett Wiles of the BP Thickson Dundas Service Centre show off one of three giant tires from graders at the Inco nickel mines in Sudbury. The tires have a rim size of 24 inches and are mounted outsîde the service station.
