They won 1 the titie by a 2-0 shutout of league champions Pickering at Dun Moore Park in West- shore on Septemrber 23. Crown were deserving of the win over a very good Pickering squad that were given very few good chances because of an excellent defensive set-up in which Keith Wilson was superb. Keith field the défense together and when one made f a rnistake (and there were few of those) somneone was there Fias backup to snuff out any Ifscoring opportunity. In the tirst quarter of the game the Whitby team showed an awesomne offense that had the opposition reeiing and when earned themn a penalty shot which was not converted and the game remnained score- Iess. It start- ed in the Whitby end when Stephen Porter reiieved the Pickering winger of the bail and passed the bail along the sideline to left winger Jirn IReid, Jlrn passed it'inside to Bill Lamont who returned it to Reid, he 'carried' the bal titi he was opposite the edge of the penalty box and he then put a square bail across - Lamont 'dummied' it and George Rossler was there to blast the bail int-o the top left hand corner. This is what soccer is ail about and during that speil the Pickering team could only stand and watch. The remaining part ot the first haif was very even with neither tearn able ta break thro.
