SOCIAL PLANNING EXIIIBIT The Social Planning Council of Oshawa-Whitby will be featuring its annual Social Services Exhibit, "Community in Action", on September 23 and 24 at the Oshawa Shopping Centre. The primary purpose of the exhibit is to provide information on existing community services. The object is to promote greater communication and co- operýition between the agencies and the public. The public is encouraged to inquire about those available services at the exhibit. COUNTRY & WESTERN JAMBOREE A Country and Western Jamboree will be presented Friday at Heydenshore Pavillon from 9 p.m. to i a.m. by the Whitby Lions Club. There will be dancing to the sound of Gary "Gizz" Watt and the Hitch Hikers, somne square dances wiil be called, and there will be refreshments available., Tickets are on sale at Jordison & Carty Gulf Service, 309 Dundas Street West, W. OCTOBERFEST The Brooklîn and District Klnsrnen Club wili be holding an Octoberfest at the Brooklin Arena October 7 from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. and October 8 from 2 p.m. to, 1 a.m. There is a $2 admission-fee, with ail proceeds going fo Cygîk Fibrosis research. Gernian music will be provided by Royal Alpine, and modern music by Music Factory. Dance. contests will be held throughout the Octoberfest. GRANiD OPENING The grand opening. of the Kent Building at Dundas and Kent Streets will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, with Mayor Jim Gprtshore cutting the ribbon. The public is invited to corne and participate in the opening of this new buillding of stores and offices. WHALEgSFILN% The Ontario Science Centre Program "Whales" will be presented at the Whitby Public Library September 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Slides, overhead projectors and tape recordings will be used to depict the ife of the whale. Parts of a whale skeleton will be on view, and there will be history of the whaling industry. Emphasis is placed on the endangered status of many whale species and on current conservation and protection programs. FALL PLANTING The Brooklin Horticultural Society will feature Ray Halward of the Royal Botanical Gardens speaking on Faîl Planting and Prepara- tion for Winter. September 28 at 8 p.rn. at the Brooklin United Church. lncluded will be the annual Mum show, with special classes for Vegetables and Decoratives. TAG DAY, The Whitby branch of the Ontario Humnane Society will be holding its annutl tag day, October 1. Residents of Whitby are asked to support the humnane society. by giving donations to there various tag distributors around town. WHISTLER ENTERTAINS Miss Mignon Mayneord, a professionally trained whistler' will demonstrate her talent in St. Mark's United Church on Sunday morning when. the Congregation and Churcli school unite in worsip.. Miss Mayneord whose special gift was dis- covered at an» early age attended. a sehool in Los Angeles where she received lessons from Dr. Ernest Nickel. Through the years she has used her talent as a giftfrom God and has shared in his praise in many services of worship. Miss Mayneord who lives in Peterborough! has visited the Oshawa Whitby area on other occasions and is well known to many.
