The gaine was only 60 seconds old when John Longmuir, after a fine four- way passing combination, gave the bantams a 1i-0 edge. Shortly after John again found the net on a fine diving header but- the goal was ruled off-side. Sixteen minutes into the game Gus Robertson tied things up when he was Ieft unmarked on the left. The first half how- ever, beionged to the bantams as Alistair Clark, Bill Lamont and then George Rossier each scored to give them a corn- rnanding 4-1 haif-time lead . In the second despite the fact that the play was very even it was the old-timcrs that got on the scoreboard, the first on a good effort by Don Mizen (who normally coaches the bantams) and then by Tom McCallum. These two goals carne in the first 10 minutes of the haîf and for the remnainder of the game neither teani could break down the opposition defense and the bantams came away vi th a 4-3 win. The next gai-e for Crown Industrials, providing they survive the first round againsi Westshore, will bc in the second rouind against eithcr Oshawa Lions or Tridents at Peel Park on Wed., Sept. 14 ut 6 p.;n. take part in the first annual Cabbagetown Boxing & Youth Centre Inc. soccer tournament (for the John Craword Whylie Memorial Cup) to be held i 7th & i 8th Sept. at Broadview Y and Riverdale Park (east) fields in Inner City Toronto. In the 17th the local tearns will play Toronto OlympInieS at 9:00 a.mn. St. Catharines at 2:00 p.m. and Re xdale at 5:30 p.m. with the two top teamns after the round robin section advanciflg to the quarter finals on the Sept. 18. The round robin section, of the junior division of the Oshawa and District soccer league, got underway at Peel Park on Monday Aug. 29 and it was not the best of nights for the local Marianne Developmnents team. With three regulars missing from the line-up and with the opposition playing a very good passing gaine the Marianne Dev. squad went down to a 5-1 decision at the hands of this years league champions Malta Falcons of Oshawa. Despite yet another good gamne by full back Mike Pasowisty and a tremendous performance by outside left Dave Soo the visitors went ahead, after 21 minutes, on a goal by Emnilio Siciliano and increased the lead just before the interval when a Myron Halvchuk shot, which was going well wide, bounced off a defender and ended up in the ilet. ln the second, with Whitby trying different combinations in an attempt to fi in the gaj.s, Vic Roch made it 3-O and then timîio Sieiliano, with his second of the game, widened the gap stili further. Marianne kept plugging aw ay and were rewarded when a beautifully taken free kick, taken by Rick Borg, found Tommy Hunter unmarked at the edge of the 6 yard box and he wasted no time in blasting the bail home, how- ever, straight froin the ensuing kick, off Ron Winterink again gave Malta Falcons a four goal edge that they held until the final whistle. The next game f lr Marianne Development wil be also at Peel Park on Fri. Sept. 9 when their opponents will be the West-Enders - kick-off 6:00 p.m. The tturd and final game Jf the round robin section will be against Oshawa Rangers at Civic Fields on Monday Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. ,The two top teains after these preliminarys wiii go against each other for the championship at Civic Fields on Sept. 18. v v.
