An impish cartoon char- acter called* Eefer is one of the most visible personalities these days in the Dayton Tire Canada Ltd. organization at Whitby. He can bie seen every- where throughout the plant and offices încluding the Pres- ident's office, spreading goss- ip, dispensing advice, encour-1 agement, praise and criticism. This likeable littie character is, i fact, the leading comm- unicator in a programme in- troduced in April this year to encourage pride in work- manship and an awarenes m every employee of the need for quality work at ail levels of the company's operations. His impish form and antice adorn factory equipmeflt, desks and bulletin boards as he dispenses light-hearted reminders of a serlous bus- iness. Eefer's creators realized that the best of intentions can be offset by an uncon- scious mistake, so they dev- eloped another character in the forin of a good-natured but clumsy dog aptly namned 'Dogonnit'. H-e shares somne of the spotlighit with Eefer as he goofs up Eefer's good intentions, thus represeflting the frustrations of an em- ployee trying to do a good job in the face of a setback. Thomas J. Reese, the coin- pany president, says this new communications approach has been received enthusiastically by the 7 50-plus employees of the company, and that union leaders who were introduced to the programme at the saine time as management have given the programme their whiolehearted support. "Thie programme has end- less possibilities, and we in- tend to continue it as long as there are indications that it is The Eefer Flag was raised at the Dayton Tire's head office inWhitby.
