August 8. Hunter opened the scoring with a beautiful goal after 12 min. when he outplaced the left full back and slotted the ball past the goalie as he moved out to cutdown the angle. Rob Frend-Cumbo then made it 2-0 with a shot from close in and before the half Dave 500, one of the stars cd' the game, gave the local side a three goal edge at the interval. Play was quite even in the first ialf but some poor finishing by the visitors and good net minding by stand-in goalie Bob Roach kept Oshawa off the score board. Only fmr minutes into the second Tommy Hunter got'his second but then the Whitby defense slackened off and allowed Rangers to take control resulting in two goals by Frank Petronio to bring Oshawa back into the game but Marianne held on and one minute from the end Hunter topped off a fine game by completeing his hat- trick to give Marianne Dev. a well deserved 5-2 win. Ian Bell in goal for Whitby for the second half gave a confident performance. This win a 4-2 and 1 season with gave Marianne record on the goals for and against of 20 and 14 and leaves them 2nd in the leagug, three points behind Malta FAlcons with two games left in the league. The last league game, of the season for Marianne will be at Peel Park on Aug. 22 at 8:00 p.m. when their oppon ents will be Malta Falcons of Oshrawa. On Tuesday Aug. 9 at Peel Park, the Crown Industrial Bantams after too many easy games, weren't up to their game against Oshawa Lions with the result that they came out at the wrong end of a 3-0 score. Although the hosts had more good opportunities in the first half, Oshawa were the only ones to score on a goal by Steve Benjamin. In the second half im- mediately after the re-start Benjamin gave Lions a 2-0 lead and six minutes later a bad pass back gave the vistors a third goal which was credit- ed to Tony Cassar. For the remaining 39 minutes Crown Industrials bom barded the visitors net but a combin- ation of a packed Lions de- fense, bad finishing by Whit- by, some tremendous goal- tending by Tony Giorgi and the crossbar kept Whitby off the scoreboard. This is the only league game of the season that Crown Industrials have failed to score. Crown Industrials next orne game, their last of the season, will be against H.V.S.
