Major study1Bugeaui for hospitalI A' long-awaited broad- based study of the Whitby Psychfatric Hospital should begin before the end of April, Health Minister Dennis Timbreil told the Ontario Legisiature Thursday. The proposed study will cover al aspects of the hospital's role both within the community and in rela- tion to Lakeshore and Queen Street Mental Health Centres in Toronto. Included in the review will be clinical services, teaching and research requirements, support services and relations withi psychiatric units in adja- cent hospitals. Mr. Tinibreli said that at Whitby and Lakeshore, "many of the older buildings at both hospitals are inadequate for modemn types of treatmcnnt". Queen Street bas just been rebuiit and renovated. In October 1976, Adminis- trator Ken Sheehan said the provincial government would have to make some major decisions about the long-termn future role of the hospital, including whether to reno- vate or dernolish its 60-year- oid buildings. in recent years there had been speculation that the hospital would be discontin- ued by the government, turned over to a private board or converted to a provincial park.
