D UNOAS WHITBY MRIE PRESS, WEDNESDAY. MARCH 16, 1977, PAGE 15 Ken MacDonald. is, re-elected as Whitby basebail The Whitby Minor Basebal Association has elected Ken MacDonald as President for the cdîning year. It will be the second stint for him as head of Whitby's minor base- bail activity. In returning to the top post on the Whitby basebaîl scene he becomes only the second man to hold the presidential office for a repeat terni. In 1971 he took over the reins of the W.M.B.A. from Neil Murkar, the association's founding president who headed up the organization in 1969 and f 1970. The new President, ,a famniiar face on the Whitby bageball scene for many years; brings to the position both on and off field experience. As a player he was on several f Whitby clubs and ended his active career at the seniori level, and since the W.M.B.A. was formed hie has held numerous positions acting as a coach at the tyk'c, pèeewee arfd bantamn levels and also as an umpire and has had several administrative positions acting as a director, convenor and umipire-in-chief in previous seasons. The new prexy has several ideas he wants to implement for the upcoming season to improve the day to day run- ning of the many divisions within the W.M.B.A. and to improve the calibre of play and officiating. A recruiting drive is to begin immediately to line coaching staffs for botli house league and E.O.B.A. clubs so that when the weather does f inally break in a couple of months plans wil1 be well completed and action can begin on the field. In recent seasons there has been a problem in certain areas enlisting coaches f with dêlays in getting sehedules underway and it is hoped that these probleins can be avoided with an early start in the season's planning. The terrible spring in '76 pushed schedules back several weeks and the bad weather played havoc with every league. Woody Lee is the new Vice-Pres. of the association, while Bill Puchalski is acting again as Treas. Tony Van Doleweerd is the new W.M.B.A. Sec'y, replacing Gerald Robinson who is stepping down after devoted service to the organization. Mr. Robinson is the Pres. elect of the Whitby Rotary club, and is slated to assume office on July lst 50 his face wîll not be seen around Whitby's p m- m 668-3222 HOURS MON-THURS. 11: 00 a.m. - 12 p.m. FRI. 11 a.m. -2 a.m. SAT. 1 p.m. .2 ar.
