350-acre addition prop2sed Conservation authority Plans major expansion ofH H eber Down area A master plan which pro- poses addling 350 acres to the Heber i.ý,wn Conservation Area soutlî of Brooklin, was unveiled by the Central Lake Onta'rio Conservation Author- ity last week. The plan cails for the acquisition of two gravel pit' sites, of 18 and 77 acres apiece, located near the centre of the existing conser- vation area. The 1 8-acre site is owned by Tripp Construiction, and the other is an aggregate operation run by Ilarnden and King which could take five to 10O years to wor'k out, depending on construction requiremen ts. *The renlaining 225 acres consist of the Hess.aggregate open-pit mining acre com- posed of 1 50 acres situated north of Macedonian Village, and 95 acres of assorted parcels of land on the perimiter of the existing 650-acre conservation area. Budget restrictions may limit thie ariount of develop- ment in the conservation area each year, the master planreport states. One pionner said the Tripp and Harden and King gravel pits wiIl ultimately be used as parking lots. Oshawa councillor John Howden suggested the worked out lands could be used as sanitary. landfill sites, but CLOCA Chairman John. Goodwin* stated that the ministry of environment gave the t wo pits an unfav- orable report. CLOCA's Assistant General Manager Bob Allen'said' the sanitary landfill sites would be too close to Lynde Creek. The valley wall had already been brcached by one of the gravel pits, and there were problems plugging that breacli, le said. Vol. 6, No. 51 Wednesday, Deceinher 22, 1976' 28 Pages I w. INSIDE'.
