This year's convention is the 75 th held by the associa- tion, which wvas formed in 1899 to represent volunteer fire fighters in Ontario. In 1939 and 1969, the conven- tion was held in Whitby. .The rire fighters from across the province are coming back to Whitby to help the Whitby Fire Depart- men t celebrate its 125th anniversary. The Whitby departrnent has'arranged for 230 campsites on the Brookiin Fair grounds for the fire fighters and their families, and the centre of events will be the Brooklin are na. The !convention opens July 30 and continues througli Aug. 2, coinciding with the Whitby Couinty Town Carnival. Area residents are invited to attend the various conven- tion events and participate in parades and dances. Sonie of the highlîgihts 'of the convention are a dance at the Brooklin arena at 8:30 p.m. July 30, officiai opening of the convention at 1:30 p.m. July 31, and the Pire Fighters Bail at 8:30 p.m. the saine day. On Sunday August 1, at 1 p.m. there will be a parade from the Brooklin fire hall to the arena for a memorial service, followed at 2:30 p.m. by tWe fun games, which include a water bail contest, bucket race and bath tub race. At midnight the gigantic pyjama parade, a highlight of every rire fighters convention, will formn up at the Brooklin arena, and proceed through the streets of this normally peaceful and, quiet village. The pyjama parade will be followed by a dance. At 10 a.m. August 2, there wiil be 1 a Miss Fire Fighters contest in the arena, foi1owed " " i 1p.m. by a Councillor Joy Thompson -ct games night Whitby Arts Gomes N ight Friday Whitby Arts Inc. wiII be holding its fourth annual Games Night at the Station Gallery Fridlay 'rom 9.pm. to i a.m. in connection with the County Town Carnival. This event will consist of games, live entertainment and refreshments, for any- one aged 18 and over. The games night is a major fund raising event for Whitby. Arts, and wHI be followed on July 31 and Aug. 1 by an outdoor arts fair froni noon. to 5 p.mn. both days. The arts fair will consist of displays and a sale of arts and crafts by Ontario artists. There will also be a children's art activity area, and the gallery and gift show will be open to the public. The Whitby Arts Station Gallery is iocated at the corner of Henry and Victoria Streets.
