A tour was provided and a reception held at the plant, on the shore of the St. La'vrence River.- Continued f rom Page 2 On -Saturday, the Whitby delegation visited the Olympic stadiumn in Montrea1ý which is stili under construction. ýDuring the visit, the Whitby residents witnessed the opening ýof the Quebec Provincial High School Champ- ionships which were being, held in the Olympic stadium.,, < In tie evening, there Was'a restaurant on Ile Ste. Helene, at which presentations were made on behaif of the Whitby Historical Society and the Whitby Cham ber of Commerce. Brian Winter and Mrs. Adele Ruddy and Mrs. Gert Drew presented gifts to Raymond LaBadie, curator of the Electrical Historical Mu- seum of Longueuil, which has been twinned with the Whitby Historical Society since 1975. The gifts included a copy of the oldest photograph of Whitby, taken in 1860, and souvenirs of the l2Sth anniversary of the Whitby Fire Department and the lSOth anniversary of St. Mark's United Church. Mr. Winter also presented an inscribed' mug made 'in Whitby tui Jean Guy Parent, President of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. Following the dînner, a number of Whitby delegation visited La Ronde on the Expo-islands. There was also a visit to a water filtration plant in Longueuil, where there was a reception and conducted tours. A visit was also made to the Longueuil cultural centre to see an exhibition of paintings of Longueuil's historic buildings.. Sunday started with a religious service in St. Antoine Church, the largest church' in Longueuil, which was originally construc- ted as a cathedral. The final event of the twinning was a dinner at the motel where the Whitby delegation was staying. Fur- ther gifts were exchanged and speeches made. The dinner ended withi the singing of Auld Lang Syne* and O Canada in Englishi and Frenchi, as everyone joined hands. Sunday afternoon the Whitby delegation returned by train fromn Montreal, everyone agreeing that the twinning visit had been an outstanding success.
