When the stormy winter weather bits, indoor drafts are flot only uncomfortable, but they'l1 cost you a pretty penny in wasted heat. It's a worthwhile and faîrly simple job to seal out cold air leaks around doors and wiridow frames with caulking and weather stripping. Here's how: Weather stripping If the outside doors of the house don't fit snugly into their frames, weather strip- ping should be applied to thé- door frames. The vinyl and vinyl-foam types are most effective, and are readily available at hardware stores. Nail or stick the stripping to the door stop, cutting it at a siant to fit smoothly at the corners. Depending on the sort of material you're using, the bottom stripping should be attached to either the bot- tom edge of the door or the doorstep. Caulking Use cauilking to seal the cracks arou nd door and window frarnes, as \vell as cracks under caves and in hasemient %valls. Various cautking compounids suitable for a variety of uises are sold at hardware and building supply stores. The job of caulking takes a bit of prac- tice, so vou*'d best work slowlv and stick -to the in- structions on the package. Keep a rag handy to wipe off the excess.
