A spokesman for Local 647 of the Tearnsters Interna- tional Union said the niem- bers voted alnost 95 percent against accepting the com- pany's contract proposai. The union bargaining com- mittee has refused to accept any wage offer until two key contracturai language issues are resolved. Job security has been one of the issues of contention, the union says. at which time possible expan- sion of the service was discussed. The meeting, was a resuit of a request from a Wlitby resident for counicil to look into the possibility of Charter- ways adding an earlier run to their service so that he could get to Oshawa where he works by 6:40 a.m. At present, the earliest Charter-. ways bus leaving Whitby for Oshawa is at,6:50. The young man who made the request wondered if, failîng that,. Charterways woui'd relax its franchise during its off hours to allow GO Transit to pick up east- bound passengers in Whitby as eastbound GO buses leave the Highway 401 terminal at 6:02 a.rn. and the Highway 2 stops at 6:59. When asked if the comn- pany wouid consider either alternative, the representa- tives of Charte rways said that they couid not give an answer until they conferred with Mr. Whitfieid. He may appear at the next operationS commnittee meet- ing at which timne the matter wiii be discussed further.
