Groups spring up for single parents The Whitby Brass'Band led off the Canadian Legion's annu al Remembrance Day church parade Sunday, to Ail Saints' Anglican Church. Veterans of both the First and Second World Wars paraded to the church and took part in the special service. A service was also held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cenotaph, and a Remembrance Day dinner beld in the Legion Hall. Thie organization is also flot a crutch like s0 many simnular organizations are. According to Eric Crofton, head of the local chapter, "we don't want to have people Ieaning on us. Wben the people corne in, we want them to grow". >At present, the local chap- ter, founded two years ago with the established of the national organization, has 65 parents as members, twice the March total. It bas 20 prospective members 'serving a 30-day trial period after which tbey may or may flot decide to join on a permanent basis. To qualify for' member- sbip, one must-be a parent living separate frorn bis or ber spouse. Interested persons need flot bave custody of their cbildren. The membership fee is Si12 per parent wbicb covers the cost of tbe activities geared to the parents and children. The local chapter hoj1ds meetings every- Tuesé-ay. Upcoming events during the montb include a fund raising dance at the Y.M.C.A. Whitby Lions 'visit Eu rope About one third of the members of the Wbitby Lions Club will be visiting Austria, Switzerland and Italy next fail to meet memnbers of other Lions Clubs in Europe. Last April, Earl DeHetre, the Wbitby club's chairman of international relations, wrote to tbe Montford Lions Club in Feldkirch, Austria, inviting the club to twin with Wbitby. In August the Mont- fort Club agreed to the- twinning, and invited the Wbitby club to corne to Austria. The trip is limited to 44 people, Lions and wives, and is expected to be made in September or October 1976. It will consist of a visit to the Montfort club and otheï Lions Clubs -in theý surround- ing area, and sightseeing tours. Th-ree Whitby Lions Club members. Bill Scbatzmann. Don Robertson. and Hugh Polson took part in the County Town Singers' visit to Feldkirchi in August 1974. and met members of the Montfort Club at that tirne.
