Whitby defeated Bowman- ville 134, Cobourg 15-O, Trenton 6-1 and won the final gaine of the double knockout tournament 10-0 against Trenton. in the first gaine of the tournamnent against Bowman- ville, Whitby was led at the plate by Ricky Dunphy with a home mun and a single and Mike Welling with a double and single. Paul Connelly, Dave Ciehanskie and Real Bergevin had two hits each with Grant Leitch adding a single. The second gaine against Cobourg was called after 5 innings with Whitby leading 15-0. Ricky Dunphy pitched a no-hitter and struck out 12 while hitting two home runs in picking up the win. Dennis Faltur also had a home mun. Mike Welhing and Grant Leitch had two hits each with Paul Connelly, Greg Maclsaac and Real Ber- gevin picking up one hit each. In the third gaine against Trenton, Mike Weling and Ricky Dunphy limnited the opposition to two hits while striking out 13. Whitby'"s Tim Clark had second place kart by MIALCOLM SCHELL Scott Goodyear, a 15 year- old Willowdale boy took the top prize of $2,000 in the Pro 5,000 Go Kart race held at Family Kartways on the weekend. Second place was taken by Tim Clark of Whitby and third by Gary Hartinan of California. Scott, who first becamie involved in racing six years ago through his father, said he experienced few probleins on the track "except for real- ly tough competition". 'Ihe race, which is the richest for go karts in North America, featured a 1-2-3 battie for first place ail the way aiound the 20-mle cir- cuit. Scott Goodyear held a slim lead over Scott Pruit of California and Tim Clark over the first eight laps at which timne Clark moved into the lead. On the lOth and Pnal lap, however, Tin Clark rau out of 'fuel allowing Good- year and Pruit to pass and he coasted in at third. place. Scott Pruit of the Hart- man tearn was later dis- qualified during the technical inspection which allowed teammate Gary Hartinan to move into third place. Approximately- 50 karts started the 10 lap race and reached top speeds of up to 75 m.pii.
