PAGE 9 Show -andb eauties open carnitval, A real extravaganza is planned this year to Open the County Town Carnival as Bert Fleaver combines his musical variety show with the County Town Carnival Queen Pageant. The show wil follow the famfliar pattern with Mr. Heaver actlig as master of ceremnonies and the contest- ants appearing at varlous periods throughout the two- hour variety show. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday July 25 at the Iroquois Park Arena. A capa- city crowd of more than 2,000 is expected, and the Whitby Sea Cadets will be acting as ushers. Musical accompaniment will, be provided on the piano by Marg Webber and Bey Smith, and there wlll also be mu sic by the Whitby Brass Band, and Thé Seventh Con- cession, a group led by Ray Tizzard. Among the performers will be Ted Crouch who wil sing ballads and accompany himself on the guitar. Ted will sing a duet with Lynn Liddell, who will also besing- ing alone, the popular song, Second Hand Rose. Another singer is Paul Knibb who will be accom- panied by a group of local musicians. George Mackenzie, who along with many of the other perforrners, was in Mr. Heav- er')s variety show last April-, wfil sing The Impossible Dream, and die song, More, from Mondo Cane. -The Marg Connolly Dan- cers wHI do an interpretive jazz number called Black and White, accompanied by Marg Webber and Oie Seventh Con- cession, and also a'highland dance number accompanied by the pipes. DancersBrian and Sharon Smnart will do a spccialty Latin American 'number called a Passadoble, and Sharon Smart and J oanne Drumm -will do a duet entitled Today. Another singer is Phil Tru- del, who MEl sing two popu- lar numbers of the day. Jenny Richter,. who was Whitby's County Town Carnival Queen in 1973, will slng Barbara Streisand's popu- lar number, The Way We Were, and there will be a violiii solo by John Beaton, accompanied by Marg Web- ber'on the piano. Another fuature of the show wll bc a duet.by Bey Smith and 'his daugh ter Robynne, he on the piano and she on the organ. In addition, there will be a med- ley of short ballads by Derek and Mirja Groves, rounding out the parade of local talent. Mr. Heaver, who has becn in charge *of several variety shows for the County Town Carnival in past years. wil he producer-director, as well as master of ceremonies, and Peter Thrasher is the stagq manager. The variety show and Carnival Queen Pageant is free of charge and a capacity crowd is expected at. the Iroquois Park'Arena July 25. Two dances atIroquois Park Little Caesar and the Con- suis Will be the featured band at two County Town Carnival dances sponsored by the Whitby' McDonaldsSenior A. Hockey team, July 24 and 26. The dances will be held at the Iroquois Park arena from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. both nights, with proceeds going to the Senior A hockey team, and Junior and Minor hockey. The McDonalds will also be making a donation to the St. John Ambulance' Brigade which attends aIl games.
