On Thursday, thie Macs suffered a 6-5 setback at Iroquois Park arena, despite a strong third-period comeback Wayne McConn6ll and Mike Flanigan paced the visitors with two goals and one assist each. Dick Cherry got things started for the Cornets after taking a pass frorn Jirn Sun- strom on the opposite edge of the crease and banging it past Bruce Durno. Captaiîn Charlie Convery upped the lead to two goals on a breakaway from the Wliitby blueline. He pulled Bruce Durno to the ice and flipped it over the sprawling goalie. Whitby closed the margin to one on the prettiest goal of the evening. Bill Littli retrieved the puck after put- ting it through a defence- men's legs and fed it- to Bill Murray who drove it past Dave Gavel. Napanee closed out the first period scoring when Wayne McConnell slapped a low drive under Bruce Durno's catching glove. Bill Little got the tvhcs' second goal on a 30 foot blast from the face-off circle. Wayne McConnel notched his second marker of the game when he picked up a rebound off a defencemnan and fired it past Bruce Durno. Mike Flanigan tallied his first goal at 12:19, converting a pass from Rick Gerow. Whitby's Tim Pelyk de- livered the two stiffest checks of the gamne in a two-minute span. He sent Winston Dow- deli over his hip and crashed Dowdell into the boards oti separate plays. A fluke goal turned out to be the winner for Napanee. Rick Gerow fired the puck into the Whitby end. Bruce Durno missed the rebound off the backboard and Mike Flanigan drilled a wrist shot into an empty net. The Macs started their comeback at 9:20 of the final stanza wheén Pete Vipond took a centering pass from Doug Tate and fired it home. Wayne Weller scored less than a minute later after taking Gary Millroy's feed the shoulder and mask and dropped behind hlm. He feil on the puick before it crossed the goalline. Gord McCosh also came -close to notching the *equaliz- or but his point-blank sho t ~vas kicked out by Gavel with one minute remaining. The 350 'in attendance were on the edge of their seats throughout the exciting third frame. On Sunday. it was Napan- ee's turn for a comeback. The game ended 3-3 after a scoreless 1 0-minute sudden- death overtie period.. Macs held period leads of 2-0 and 3-1 in the gamne in Napanec. Bruce Durno and Pote Vipond starred for the visitors. Bru ce Durno turned aside 43 shots while Dave Cavel stoppod 3 1. Pote Vipond sc,,ied twice for Whitby and M yne Wller once. Juvenile Al Stars ran Up their largest score of the season recently at Iroquois Park when they defeated the visiting Cobourg Juveniles by a score of 13 - 1. The C.B.C.'s took a 2 -O lead at the end of the first period and by the end of the second were ahead by.a score of 5 - 0. In the third, the C.B.C.'s continued to pour it on and scored 8 more goals to Cobourg's 1. Jim DeMille and Tomn Foster ecd had a hat trick for the C.B.C. crew, followed by Glenn Kinzie with 2 and singles by Ron Beettam, Tirn Brown, Harry Forbes,.Steve Sandford and Dave Sorichette. C.B.C. goalie Tomn Connel- ly, while îlot overworked, did corne Up with nurnerous key saves and lost his bld for a slîutouit with 5 seconds left in the game. It was a clean gaine with the visitors. taking only 1 penalty to the CBC.'ý 4. The Whitby, Knob Hili Farms Junior 'A' hockey club won two garnes on the week- end. On Saturday, Whitby beat Royal York Royals 6-3. The Hilers scored three goals in the third period, one in the second and two in the third. Scoring for Whitby were Tom McLeish with two goals. Rick Prien, Ken Clark, Jim Duignan and Mike Pritchard notched singles. Replying for the losers were Paul Titanic with two and Dan Dane with ono. On Sunçjay, Whitby odged Aurora Tigers 5-4 in Whitby.
