It was the unveiling of a historical pla- que cornmemorating the College as a Historie site. The special ceremony took place on thc lawn under the direction of the Ar chaeolo- gical and Historie Sites Board of Ontario. Present at the unveiling were two members of the Historie Sites Board of Ontario. Mrs. Margaret Serivener, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Housing, said. &twe need t0 preserve our historic sites and Hîistoric hiomes. Ontario Ladies' Col- lege, the homne of' hie first Sheriff of Ontario County, is a delightful and beautiful historie home. It is a momentous occasion in the history of Whitby to have this beautiful sehool and building chosen as the first Historical Site location in Whitby. We are honored that the Archaeological and Historie Sites Board of Ontar- io have placed their stamp of approval on this beautiful building." Mayor Newman turned to Dr. Reginald C. Davis, principal, and staff members commending them for the desire to share the Centennial Celebrations with the Community as a whole. We as a rnunicipality and comrnunity are grateful to the Board, Principal, Faculty, students and Alurnnae for sharing this eventful istorical momfent with us, tdie Town of Whitby" During the Centennial Commencement ceremonies in the College Auditorium, an Entrance Scholarship, in memory of Dr. and Mrs. C.R. Carseallen, for first class' hon- ors was -presentedý to Margaret Fait re, hy Miàs helen Carseal'- len daughtcr of Dr. and Mrs. Carscallen, former Principal of Ontario Ladies' College. The late Dr. and Mrs. Cars cal- len lived for many years on Byron Street north in Whitby after his retirement from the Ontario , Ladies' College principalship. Mrs. Carscallen was the Librarian at the College. There was a presentation of books to the College Library honoring the memory of Graydon Goodfellow, formerly of Whitby. A portrait.of Dr. Stanley Osborne the former principal of Ontario Ladies' College was unveiled and presented to the College by the members of the Board. The Dedication Service on Sunday was presided over by Rev. John M. Smnith, of St. Marks United Church, Whitby He said that the purpose of the College which is one of the anchor colleges in the educational programme of the Chiurcli is the "educating of young women in the light of Christian virtue during the the past 100 years. The Ontario Ladies' CcIlege is giving of itself in the further- ing of the education of young people on this the threshold of another Century."
