The Law and You Q. I am a bachelor with a modest estate. I don't want to make it more modest unless I have to. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to get a lawyer to draft a will. What happens to my estate if I just don't bother to get a will at all? Does it all go to the gov-. ernment? A. If you are an unmarried man, then your whole estate is divided in equal portions between your parents and your brothers and sisters. If any of your brothers or sisters have died and they have children surviving them, the children of the brother or sister take the brother's or sister's share. If there are no surviving parents or siblings at the time of your death, the estate is divided arnong the nearest surviving next of kin. Only if you have no traceable next of kin at all, does your estate go to the government. By the way, if your estate is small and your will is simple a will should not cost much. Try shopping around among lawyers for a good price. Q. My last marriage ended in a very nessy divorce. Can this effect my credit rating? A. Under Ontario's new Consumer Reporting Act no consumer credit reporting agency can keep this sort of personal information on file without cither rea- sonable corroboration or without noting on the re- port that there is no corroboration. You are entitled to see personal information on you up to a year old. No one can get this sort of infor- mation from the credit reporting agency without first giving you written notice. Q. A couple of months ago i saw a really great looking /73 Mustang for sale on a used car lot. When I asked my old man if he would lend me a few bucks to buy it, he told me to gei lost. The bank wouldn't give me the money either. They said I was too poor a credit risk. Anyway I got a loan from Ontario Acceptance Corporation. They loaned me $2,400 at 24% per annun or something like that. Anyway one night, a couple of weeks ago I totaled the car coming home from the "Chaud". I didn't have any collision insurance because it was too expensive. I didn't feel like paying for something I didn't have so I stopped paying off the loan. The finance com- pany took what was left of rhy car, and now they want me to pay what's owing on the loan. Is this fair? A. Of course it's fair and what's more it's legal. You borrowed money from Ontario Acceptance and in First Products A new company is enter- ng the leisure products field. rimarily a manufacturer of iigh quality fiberglass sail- boats, WEGU CANADA Inc. is nearing completion of its 64,000 sq. ft. plant in Whitby. The first of the company's products have already been produced and have been placed in Whitby harbour for demonstration purposes. The "Happy Sailer" is an eighteen foot day-sailer which is aimed at the small family. It has sleeping ac- commodations for four people and can be fitted with a marine toilet. The boat is stable enough for the begin- ner but fast enough for the accomplished sailor. The "Tempo Jolle" is a fast exciting competitive sailboat. Unquestionably she will provide a new standard of excellence for 15 foot yachts. She comes complete- ly equipped for racing. WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1974, PAGE 3 r Although the "Tempo Jolle" is a competition 'boat it hîso presents to the non-competi- tive sailer the thrill of speed, which when combined with her safety features will make her a popular all-round boat. The WEGU Fiberglass Modular Docking System is constructed using the same production methods as is return promised to pay it back, plus interest. The fact that you were imprudent enough to spend the noney on. a car and not insure it is your tough luck. After being turned down by the bank you nev- er should have gone to a finance company. You have probably yet to consider that 24% per annum of $2,400 works out to $600.00 per year of $50 per month interest without even considering the princi- pal ewing. See if your dad will help you get out of this mess. Ask him to co-sign a loan from his bank so you can pay off the finance company. r Sears It's Our... A friend told me about an article he read in Playboy some months ago about a new kind of marajuana which didn't fall under the Narcotics Control Act and would be perfectly legal. Is he right? A. No. The article in Playboy which your friend men- tioned, dealt with the possibility of a new type of marajuana called cannabis sativa H, which would be outside the Narcotics Control Act which specifically refers to cannabis sativa L. Don't hold your breath for cannabis sativa H to be sold legally. Canada's leading botanists and taxologists maintain that if such a thing as cannabis sativa H even exists, it is at most a strain of cannabis sativa L and not a different type or genus. A recent line of appeal cases has held that cannabis sativa H is only a strain of L and is illegal. vertising, furniture and ap- pliances and floor coverings.
