Bey. Davis, president of Whitby Minor and Max Case, chairman of the South Central Lacrosse Association delivered speeches welcorning our visitors from Belleville and wish- ing the boys luck in the coming season. With both teams lined on either side, the officiai face off was then dropped by George Purdy, vice-president of Whitby Minor and taken by Scott Bremner a Pee Wee and Scott Ravary a Bantam. The first game was won by the Andrew Antenna Pee Wee Team with a score of 7 - 4 over the Belleville team. Two goals each for Whifby were scored by Wayne Ode r- kirk, Calvin Avison and Scott Bremner who also had two assists for the night' The other lone goal was scored by Ricky McCoy. Assisting on these'kâals were Brian Sullivan with two, Danny Marks, Chris Hill and Jeff Solby with one each. Goaltending duties were shared by Jeff Smnith and David Lewis. The Belleville scorers were P. Hounslow, J. Belanger, D. Prever and B. Deans with assists going to S. Slaughter, J. Forester and B. Slaughiter. In goal for Belle- ville was D. Coyea who made soîne impressive saves., Whitby took seven penalties to two taken by Belleville. In the second game of the evening Peter the Plumber Bantams defeated the Belleville Yardrnen 122 to 5. Top scorer for Whitby was Rick Nieuwcndyk withi three goals and two assists. Scoring other goals and assists were Nick Nosowenko 2 and 1, John Waddell 1 and 1, Gilbert Nieu-. wendyk 2 and 1, Eddie Derks 2 and 2, Scott Ravary and leBig Macs Win Streak Snapped Until Sunday the McDonalds Restaurant Big Macs had the distinction of being the only Wbitby Club to be unbeaten in Eastern Ontario Basebaîl Assoc. play, but Trenton put an end to the Big Macs winning ways when they dropped the Whitby club 5 - 2 at E.A. Fairman. The Big Macs got off to a good start in the week with a 7 - 3 triumphi over Peterborough with left-hander Fred Petryshyn notching the victory with a four hit performance for his first win of the season. Petryshyn went ail the way for his first triumph in Bantam ranks and got good support from his mates who picked up 12 hits. Jody Turner led the way with four timely safeties, while Doug Shearer and Greg S Tushingham each picked up a pair. Other hits wveni to Dave McWhirter, Brett Hoffman, John Heffer and Petryshyn. On Friday the Big Macs met the Oshawa Legionaires at Kinsmen Stadium and Cam Murkar ran his mark to 3 - 0 for the year with a three hit performance in which hie put away I18 Legionaires on strikeouts in the game whicb ended 20 - 0 with the Big Macs on top. The Big Macs southpaw added another nine innings to his mark of shutotut pi1tchning and bas not yet given up a run this season. Jody Turner again had a big nigbit at the plate with a trio biits, an out put rnatched by Doug Shecarer. Brett Hoffman and Cam Murkar each hiad a pair of safeties while John Heffer. Fred Petryshvn. Dave McWhirter, Ian Gillis, Tirn Twining and Jamnie Roche liad singles. Sunday was a different story when the Big Macs losted Trenton and couldn't solve the pitching slants of lefty Chris Walsh who lbeld the McDonalds to four bits, a pair to Breit Hoffmnan and singles to Jody Turner and Fred Petryshyn. Dave McWhirter was tagged withi the loss, but the Big Macs problem was not defense bu t lack of any kind of effective bîtting. In Pee-Wee action, the Legionaires triirnmed Port Hope 7 - 2 with Larry Chizen coming on in the fourtb in relief and notching the victory in another steady performance by the young right-hander. John Wall and Murray McCorkell each had a pair of bits for the Legionaires while Greg Puchaîski, Gary Shearer, Paul Heffer & Rick Dunpby added singles. The Canadian Tire Midgets climaxed a bec tic week with the most exciting game of the se ason so far for Whitby fans when they edged Port Hope 2 - 1 in a ten inning affair, the third game of the weekend for the Tiremen. Highlight of the game apart from the rousin g extra inning finish was the standout pitching of Dave Allen who struck out twenty and yielded only two hits in getting a well deserved victory. The only Port Hope counter was unearnied and it would have been tough for the Whitby rîgbt hander to have had to take a loss after such a fine performance. Mike Rowley provided the game ending bit wb 'ich sent Ford Definney from second witb the winning run. Tim Brown had two singles, Mike Rowley bad a double, Camp- bell O'Donnell a triple, Kevini Roche, Steve Tutton and Dave Perry singles, Earlier on Sunday the Tiremen used three pitchers, Steve Tutton and Mark MacDonald to drop Lindsay 10 - 4. Steve Tutton pickèd up the win with ten strikeouts. Jitters in this one were Mike Rowley witb a pair of singles, Mark England, Dave Perry, Steve Tbwaites, Mark MacDonald, Ford Definney, Tim Brown, Tony Vella and Cam O'Do.nnell. Pat O'Connor I each. Eddie Finyden had '2 assists whiie Date Purdy, Danny Johnston and Tirn Tran each had 1. In goal for Whitby was B. Rud. The Belleville scorers were Jeff Runciman and Larry Innwood with 2 each, with the other one going to Doug Rainboth. Howard Graham had 2 assists while Mark Fern- ette and Guy Haggerty had one each. Taking the goal- tending duties in a game where each teamn took 10 penalties was Steve Friis. Home games for the week of June l7th are as follows: Monday- Midgets- 8:30 p.m. Thursday- Novice- 7:30 p.m. Bantam- 8:30 p.m. AIl Midget and Juvenile gamnes are played in the Brooklin Arena, while the Tykes, Novices, Pee Wees and Bantams play at the Peel' Lacrosse Box.
