This notice was fîirst pubiished this 1 st day of November, A.D., 197à. 1 While we do not necessarily agree that violence begets violence this season's new crop of television programs certainly doesn't do much to disprove the theory. Any night of the week you can turn the diai and watch some good or bad guy getting his demise by a number of grueling methods. The only difference this season is that instead, of seeing them get hit with bullets we can watch them drive off cliffs, faîl off taîl buildings or get burned to death in a flaming car wreck. To make sure A these crimes are s'olved we bave a bost of stars who bave suddenly been thrust in the role of detectives or private eyes. Tribu te to ca Star It isn't very often that a newspaper writer uses an editorial column to salute a member of the entertainment world but, the Free Press isn't just another newspaper. We believe our readers and advertisers are something 'special'. I our own conceited way perhaps, we tbink the Free Press is something 'special'as welI. Here then is our reason for bending our editorial policy to salute a 'real star' of the entertainmnent world. We are referring to Diane Leigh wbo bas the group Diane Leigh and Shades of Blue, currently appearing at Jim's Stage Door, Wbitby. Although not many of tbe audience were aware of what Diane Leîgb was suffering, sbe deserves a solid round of applause and appreciation for ber efforts. Like many 'true stars' before ber, Diane is a realistic symbol of the age old theory 'the show must go on. Last week Diane went through tbe first 'three sets' of ber performance, Thursday evening, witb a temperature of 104o and suffering severely from an acute case of bronchitis. This is serious enough for anyone but when. you are a singer performing on a stage before a live audience there is only one description that can be made 'sheer guts' and the will to fight on despite ail obstacles. Stars like Diane Leigb are few and far between and, we take our hat off to a 'true' performer and wonderful woman in ber own right. She doesn't know or recognize the word 'quit' and that bas to be special. Watt Disney seems lost in the middle of ail the violence on TV these days and there isn't even a rest for Sunday. The violence isn't confined to serial programs because a number of the made-for-televiSion movies seem to have the samne violence-prone hangup. It's bad enough that aduits who make or enforce laws and who daily must obey these laws are watching TV violence but what impression can ail this be, having on the mind of a child who is influenced by almost everything that happens from day to day. The next time you see your son or daughter doing an impression of Mannix or Toma think about the impressions violence can't belp but make on a young, impressionable mind. Then take paper and pen in hand and write the station and the advertiser who sponsors the programn and let them know you have seen enough violence.in your living roon. lt's time! Backing her up 100 percent is as fine a group of musicians as one wiIl ever find. Bey West, from Edmonton, Alberta on the steel guitar; Charley Hansen, from Burnt Point, Prince Edward Island, on the drums; Keitb Wallace from Toronto on the bass fiddle and last but not Ieast, Willie Wallace on the lead guitar. We do not advocate 'free publicity' for entertainment centres but, we cannot help but pause to salute a lovely lady and ber group, especially Diane for performing under such adverse conditions. .Thankfully she bas recovered this week and is now back ini top form providing entertainment as only a 'true star' and 'first lady' of Country-Western music can. We only hope our readers wiIl join us in a tribute to this 'star' by catching ber show, to-night, Friday or Saturday evening. She is weIl worth the effort for there is a clrastic shDrtage of 'true stars' in the entertainment world today. he WHITBY FREE PRESS welcomes news reports about community happenings or local peope.
