r PAGE 8, TFURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1973, WHITBY FREE PRESS IKININS THE BIGQzIUNNY [ast week 1 found niyseit' aboard the Big Bunny, sîpping Coke and chatting with Hugli Hefner's Jet Buniiies. It Al started wheiî a sweet voice froi îClucazgo's Playboy Club asked mie if 1 would attend the press receptioil aboard Hefner's nuch publited $5.5 million airerit which was used to transport TV stars Sonny anîd Cher. My first reaction was negative. 1 realty did îîot want to drive to Toronto International Airport just for (bat. But, later on I ehaniged ni ind. Pairtly because the PR girl was such a grezit con artist. About 1 2 reporters and photographers showed up for the press tour of the plane. a stretcht-d version of the McDonnel - Douglas DC - 9. Called the Big Bunny, it is the largest and miost luxurious priva te plane in existence. Painted jet black with a white Playboy rabbit head eniblazoned on the tail,*the Big Bunny can easily be spotted at any airport. A compliment of Playbo> Jet Bunnies - personally selected by the "Big Rabbit" himself from applicants throughout the entire Playboy Club chain - serve aboard the plane. At least three Jet Bunnies (good - looking, but îiot too bright, I found out) are on board each flight to provide the individual services. However the interior of the Big Bunny is unlike anything seen in aircraft design. Determined to eliminate the tunnel - like atmosphere of conventional airliners, Hugh Hefner decided lie wanted the plane to reflect the comfortable ambience and unusual features of the Playboy mansions in Chicago and Los Angeles. The resuit is a series of eye - catching gadgets, including the six - by eight elliptical bed, covered with silk sheets (oh yes!) and a spread of Tasmanian opossum. The living room has a completely stocked pull - out bar, where a guest can get a cocktail mixed to his own specifications. Couches are recessed into the contoured walls to provide a large open area that may be used as a discotheque. Among other Playboy wonders, the plane is equipped with duplicate controls for avaition buffs, two swivel chairs electrically powered, eight - track stereo tape equipment, a compact galley at the front of the passenger compartment and two concealed Bell and Howell l6mm mnovie projectors, swinging out from- behind a wooden panel to show feature films in Cinemascope, During the press reception, I was introduced to a couple of Jet Bunnies, aIl garbed - up in their black and white costumes, made of nylon cire. 1 was told that the " 4wet look" costumes were designed to provide "maximum freedom of movemen t." But, 1 have some doubts about this dlaim. The tight body dresses were enough to suffocate A of us aboard the Big Bunny. - Anyway, I paid more attention to the live bunnies and ignored the costume part. At a quieter moment, I button - holed the 23 - year - old Leiko Englisli who was chosen Jet Bunny from more than 800 bunnies in Playboy Clubs across the United States. Miss Englisli, sporting a white silk lielmet ShIe also broke the news that Hef is no longer dating his former playmate Barbie. "I think the much - heraîded romance is over," said Bunny English. "Hef las a new girl friend." After my brief conversation witli Miss English, I turned to Jet Bunny Sharon Gwin. Sharon, like most of the Bunnies, is a true Heiner devotee. She likes lier job and hopes to hold on to it as long as possible. According to Sharon, Bunnies are flot allowed to date Playboy Club Keyholders. But, she admits, this ruling lias some loop - holes. Mien time was up to depart from the Big Bunny, one reporter intoned: "wliat the Bell are we doing, hiere? Lets forget about these Jet Bunnies and get back to wo rk.' 1 wish lie lad said that a few hours earlier. Durham Rogional Council to b.
