Appointed for tbree year terms are: Senior Controller Anne Jones of Hamilton as the chairinan of Hamilton - Wentwortb, and tbe first woman to hold such an lappointment in Ontario; Reeve Alan Masson, 59, of Oakville as the chairman of Halton; Reeve Lou Parsons, 39, of Mississauga, as tbe chairman of Peel; and Walter Beatb, 54, a former warden of Ontario County, as tbe chairman of Durham. Elections will be beld in tbe four negions on October 1 and the inaugural meetings are tentatively planned for the week of October 15. Mrs. Jones became actively involved in municipal politics in Hamilton following the death of ber husband, a United Church minister in 1962. She was elected an alderman ini the December elections that year and ran successfully for Board of Control the following year. She was elected senior controller (deputy mayor) for three successive terms. Chairmen Mrs. Jones, who bas two children, is, an insurance agent and won an award for higbest marks in her Canadian Life Underwriters' examination. Mr. Masson was first elected to the Oakville council in 1959 and was re - elected for successive terms as a councillor until 1964, when he became mayor. He retired after a two - year term and returned fiîve years Liter when be was elected reeve. Mr. Masson, wbo bas four grown cbildren, was in the consumer boan business for. 20 years and retired after selling bis firm in 1965. Mr. Parsons, who is the only person to bold office for two successive ternis as warden of Peel County, was elected to Mississauge Council in 1967 and was re - elected for successive terms. He was chosen by the menibers of Mississauga Council as the new reeve when Reeve Charles Murray becamne mayor after the death of Robent Speck. Mr. Pansons is married with five cbildnen. He was a neal estate broker but he gave up his brokenage license mid - way through bis termn as reeve to devote bis full time to politics. Mr. Beath, who fannis witb one of bis two sons in East Whitby township, is chairman of the Central Ontario Joint Planning Board. First elected to the East Whitby council in 1951, he was reeve fromn 1955 to 1959 and wanden of Ontario County duning bis final yean as neeve. Mr. Beatb bas been extensively involved in planning activities in Ontario County since 1965 and was chairman of tbe Osbawa Anea Planning and Development study.
