The City of Oshawa,, in conjuniction with various merchants, service clubs (including O.M.- S.C.) and individuals too nurnerous to namne, have organized the first Oshawa Autofest. Ten a.mn. Monday mnorning will be the open- ing cerernonies at Civie Square. Tuesday, non other than world Driving Champion Jackie Stewart of Scotland wiII be in town. Stewart, who will be driving a Tyreli-Ford in the Grand Prix is probably one of the best known racing drivers in the world and one of the rnost popLilar and publicized athîctes of ýail timie. Earlier this year, Jackie Stewart was sclhe- duled to drive for Teami McLaren in the Can-Anm at Mosport. but had to withidraw fromn the race, and, eventually the Can-Ami series due to a bleed- ing duodenal ulcer. This aliment forced himi to confine his racing activities to Formula 1 Grand Prix racing and prompted conjecture that the Mod Scot would retire from racing at the end of thie season. But he recently squelched the rumours by announcing that he would definitely return to racing for at least next year. One of the major features of Autofest week '72 is the Miss Autofest Beauty Pageant to be held at the Civie Auditorium on Wednesday, Sep- tember 2Oth at 8 p.m. The pageant will feature beauty queens that have already been chosen by their respective groups iin the city. Some seven- teen contestants from local eihnic groups are ex- pected to appear in an extravaganza that will uise a raised walk-on stage sixty feet long. Music will be supplied by the 'Par 4', followed by a dance. Thursday will be the ever popular Police Association Variety Nighit featu ring stars of stage, radio and television. The eighit schedLîled acts iin- clude magicians, vocalists, trick rope acts and gen- eral fun for the whole family. The place is tdie Civic Auditorium and the tirne is 8 p.m. Friday evening (Sept. 22) is the race, antiquie car, & street rod show withi a display of more than haîf a million dollars worth of cars. Thie show will include Formula 1 machines that will be racing in the Grand Prix, with drivers and me- chanies on hand to answer questions and explain their cars. The Corvette loyers will see a complete selection of every model and style fromn 1953 up including somne of the future. And if 'THAT AIN'T ENOUGH'. .. . tie Valvoline Oul Company is providing race films from their extensive film library for continuouis showing during the thiree hours of the car show. Anyone who lias neyer seen auto racing will get a real indoctrination to thie sport thiroughi these excellent films. The AuItofest Car Show is open to the public froni 8-1 I p.m. with refreshnients available at tie auditorium. For most of these events admission is $ 1 per person with children under 14 admitted free when accornpanied by an adult.
