Guest speakers f o r the e v e n i n g 1included F a t h e r L e o Austin, pastor of Saint John's andMrs. Pat Moloney, a School Board trustee. The Grade 8 valedict- or i an was John Kroes. Mrs. McCor- mack, President of St. John's Catholic Women'sLeague, on behalf of her org- a n i z a t i on, presented each graduate with a momentum and also awarded the proficiency prize to Dorothy Gimpelj of Grade 8. Th e s c h o ol trophy winners were: Henry Kroes of Grade 5 (Sports) don- ated by Mr. J. Frendo-Cumbo), Leona Jagers of Grade 4 (Public Speaking), WilliamKroes ofGrade8 (Citizenship), andAngie Molica of Grade 8 (outstand- ing academic achievement by a student in the graduating class). Activity bars were then presented to the Grade 8's. E n t e r t ainment for the evening in- cluded: a musical quintet from Grades 7 and 8 (John Kroes, William Kroes, RobbieFrendo-Cumbo and Angela Jac- obs) and St. Leo's School Choir, un- der the direction of Mr. Ric Arbour. Two members of the staff who were I e a v i n g (Madame G. Doiron and Miss E. Stavert) were presented with flor- al bouquets. Refreshments were served. The Whitby Public Library reports that the Summer Reading Club is now open for members. Children joining this club and reading the required num- berof books during the summer months will be presented with a certificate at the end of the holidays. Already there h a s been a n enthusiastic response to this program. Cr a f t books with instructions for mak ing all manner of interesting objects are being featured in the Children's D epar tm ent. Children are being en- couraged to choose a particular craft book and make an interesting creation this summer that can be featured in the library's craft display at summer end. Both adults and children are also b e i n g e n c o u raged to take books for ho 1 i d ay reading. These may be taken out for any period required as long as they are stipulated as holiday books at the time they are taken. Parents are reminded that an enjoy- abl e time can be had wi th their children watching old time films and skits. The library now has a supply of 8mm films w hic h may b e borrowed for use with home projectors. Simpson •aHeron The marri age of Connie Simpson and Peter Heron took place on June 16, 1972 at 7 p.m. on the south lawns of Heydenshore Pavilion, overlooking Lake Ontario, and was solemnized by the Rev. Donald P. Lowery of Thorn- h îi Il. Rev. Lowery is associated wi th The Timothy E a ton United Church in Toronto. The ceremory took place in front of a white garden arbor, flanked by a pic- k e t fence on either s i de. Baskets of gladioli and chrysanthemums completed the setting. The bride's gown of white polyester crepewas a floor length sheath and had self ruffles at the neck and at the wrists of the siender, fitted sieeves. A floor length s i e eveless coat, with self ruf- down the front, from neck to hem, feil i n t o a graceful train and a detachabl e ruffleedged hood framed her face. She c a r r i e d r e d roses intertwined with white daisies. Conniewasgiven in marriage by her f a t h e r,' and her attendants \were Miss Marilyn Pereman of Columbus, Maid of Honour; Mr s. Nancy Codlin, sister of the br i de, and Mrs. Joanne Grills, sister of the groom, both of Brooklin, and Miss Yvonne Kirkwood of Whitby bridesmaids. The flower girl was Step- h an i e Grills, neice of the groom, and the ring bearer was Joel Simpson, brother of the bride. The attendants wore multi-coloured striped skirts and sol id mauve and green bodices. They wore large white picture hats and carried baskets of daisies. The best man was Mr. Joe Grills and t he ushers were Mr. Brian Grills and Mr. Terry Carson, ail of Brooklin and Mr. Alan Goidie of Whitby. The reception took place inside the pavi lion. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simpson and the groom, the son o f Councillor and Mrs. Robert Heron, ail of Brooklin.
