The 41-year-old mayor, president of Cametoid Limited, an Ajax metal finishing company, has been a strong v o i c e for the r ol1 e of the municipal level of government in participation at Canada's f i r s t tri-level government conference to be held this fall. Commenting on the Whitby mayor's r e c en t appointment, reeve Tom Ed- wards said it was indeed a credit for Whitby to have a man as young as Mr. Newman elected to this highly impor- tan t post. "His post is all the more prominent now that we are moving into an area of three levels of governmen't with respect to the upcoming historic. conference, " said the reeve. Saturday morning at the Whi tby Mail, the Jaycees wil attempt to find foster parents to adopt 10, 000 trees of all kinds. The project is a fund raising effort so t h e group c a n d evelop d'Hillier Park. •The park is 52 acres or about ha 1 f the size of Ontario Place. John La Tulipe, secretary of the Whitby Jaycees said the group is, Iaiming toward a nature park where the whole family can enjoy themselves." The original park development idea came f rom Chairman Chris Wilson three years ago and through hi s efforts the ideas were worked on until a plan was decided.
