page 20, Whitby Free Press, Saturday, June 7 Quebec visitors will take part In Town Carnival This year's edition of the Whitby County Town Carni- val promises to be the best yet since the resurrection of the popular summertime tradition. As has been the case since the carnival returned two years ago, a variety of familiar and new activities are plarined for the weekend of June 27-29. However, this year's carnival will also coincide with the town's annual twinning exchange with Longueuil, Que- bec as it is Whitby's turn to serve as host community. A number of events have been planned specifically for the visitors from La Belle Province. The carnival gets under way the morning of Friday, June 27 as downtown Whitby merchants will have their wares on display for the sidewalk sale. Meanwhile, the Whitby Public Library's three branches will take turns hosting a Medieval Faire throughout the day for children ages six to 12, beginning with the Rossland Road branch at 9:30 a.m. At 5 p.m., the Whitby Lions Club will throw open the flaps to its beer tent at Rotary Park and later that night there will be dances at both the Knights of Columbus hall on Brock Street and the Royal Canadian Legion hall on Byron Street. From 7 p.m. until 1 a.m. there will be a benefit concert and barbecue for The Station Gallery at Heydenshore Pa- vilion on Water Street. The band Brookfield and a choir from Ecole Secondaire Catholique Charles Garnier will perfrom. Finally, the Whitby Minor Baseball Association tour- nament gets under way at various parks in town. On Saturday, the fun continues with numerous events for adults and children throughout the day, such as the exciting bed and outhouse races on downtown streets; the Rotary Club's pancake breakfast; face painting and clowns; pony rides and a barbecue sponsored by Durham Centre MPP Jim Flaherty; the Durham Regional Police safety village; a celebrity dunk tank; a petting zoo and a demonstration by the Pickering-Ajax-Whitby animal control.
