Whitby '.,ne-wïE PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE Whitby teacher writes new musical Whitby teacher/play- wright Ed Dixon's latest production, the musical fantasy Fruit of the Sword is on the road. The play, which will be presented in Whitby Mon- day night at St. John the Evangelist School, will be seen by some 4,000 stu- dents in 25 elementary schools during its five- week tour. The public is invited to two evening performances, Tuesday and Wednesday (May 27 and 28) at Monsi- gnor Pereyma Catholic Secondary School in Os- hawa. Tickets are $3- and can be reserved by calling 432-8470. Fruit of the Sword, writ- ten by Dixon in 1991, is set in the medieval past and follows the trials and tribu- lations of the villagers of 'Obscurus. The village is pillaged by knights of the evil Lord Venom. Anderson bands perform next week Anderson CVI's junior and senior concert bands, Junior Jazz, Anderjazz, Jazz Incorporated, the new Students to meet Riding candidates Federal election candi- dates in the Whitby-Ajax riding will square off bef- ore an audience of high school students at Ander- son Collegiate next Wednesday. Sponsored by the OAC politics class, the forum will run from 1 to 3 p.m. Students from surround- ing schools have also been invited to attend. Jazz combo, eight ensem- bles and the concert and chamber choirs will per- form at Music Night '97, this Wednesday at the school. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for students and sen- iors, with a maximum of $5 a family. Each person is also asked to bring a non- perishable food item for St. Vincent's Kitchen. The schools concert and junior jazz bands are in Ot- tawa this weekend, per- forming, participating in clinics and taking in con- certs by many top instru- mental and vocal performers.
