- Donald Gilchrist was born at Whitby on 2 July 1916. From 1957-1967 he worked for the Department of Public Works at Ontario Hospital and later became its accountant until he retired in 1981. For ten years he was a volunteer fire fighter with the Whitby Fire Department.
Gilchrist was involved in local sports organizations, was a Boy Scout leader and District Scout Master, and a member of the Whitby Public School Board from 1952-1961.
Gilchrist died at Ajax on 2 September 1997 and is buried at Groveside Cemetery. - Date of Original
