Notes
Robert Nicholson was born at Whitby on 22 April 1890. At the age of 16 he joined the staff at the Martin Manufacturing Company (buckle factory)and was one of the company's last three employees when it closed in 1964.

Nicholson was also a music teacher from 1907 to 1955, choir director, and organist at various churches in Whitby from 1910 to 1949. Between 1908 and 1959, Nicholson played the organ for 154 weddings. He was known for keeping meticulous records of the weddings he played for and his music students.

Nicholson died at Whitby on 30 November 1970 and is buried in Union Cemetery.
