- Black and white photograph, c. 1870, of Agnes Smith Thornton. She was born in Whitby Township, Upper Canada, on November 9, 1839, and married John Gilchrist, an Oshawa merchant, at Oshawa on December 16, 1862. She was the second daughter of Rev. Dr. Robert Hill Thornton, the first Presbyterian minister in Whitby Township who settled there in 1833. Mrs. Gilchrist died in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on February 28, 1926 and is buried at Union Cemetery, Oshawa.
