- Sylvester Mackey was born in on the family homestead on lot 32, concession 2, Whitby Township on 9 January 1821. The son of Mathias and Nancy (Moon) Mackey, Sylvester inherited the family farm and also acquired 100 acres of lot 33. He was the deputy reeve of Pickering Township in 1877 and married to Margaret Broderick.
Sylvester died at the Mackey homestead on 2 April 1902 and is buried at Union Cemetery in Oshawa. - Date of Original
