- Luther Ernest Vipond was born at Brooklin on 20 September 1914. He was a star hockey and lacrosse player and from 1954-1979 he was manager of the Brooklin Memorial Arena and a mentor for many Brooklin sports clubs.
Vipond was injured in an accident in May 1982 and died in a Toronto hospital on 24 May 1982. He is buried at Groveside Cemetery, Brooklin.
On 14 November 1982, the Brooklin Memorial Arena was renamed the Luther Vipond Memorial Arena. In 2011, Vipond was posthumously inducted into the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame. - Date of Original
