- Luther Ernest Vipond was born at Brooklin on 20 September 1914. He was a star hockey and lacrosse player and from 1954-1979 he was manager of the Brooklin Memorial Arena and a mentor for many Brooklin sports clubs.
Vipond was injured in an accident in May 1982 and died in a Toronto hospital on 24 May 1982. He is buried at Groveside Cemetery, Brooklin.
On 14 November 1982, the Brooklin Memorial Arena was renamed the Luther Vipond Memorial Arena. - Date of Original
