- Patrick Gaynor Lynes was born in 1929. He obtained his MD from the University of Toronto in 1952, began his residency in psychiatry at Ontario Hospital, Whitby in 1957, and completed his specialization in 1959. He continued to work at Whitby until he was named Directory of the Community Mental Health Clinic in Peterborough in 1962.
Lynes returned to Whitby in 1965 as Medical Director and was Superintendent from 1966 to 1968. In 1970, he was appointed Director of Professional Services Branch, Mental Health Division, Ontario Ministry of Health where he played a major role in implementing new mental health laws. He later did forensic psychiatry work for the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry as a consult to Reconnect Mental Health Services and as a member of the Ontario Review Board.
Lynes died at Toronto on 3 October 2008. - Date of Original
