- Robert Bradford Collins was born at Whitby on 12 September 1924. He was the fourth generation of the Collins family to operate Collins Shoe Store in Whitby. In 1969, Collins purchased the shoe store from his father, Russell, and closed it in 1977.
Robert Collins joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 and graduated as a navigator bombardier in 1945. He joined the Rotary Club of Whitby in 1948 and remained a member for 54 years, serving as club president in 1963-4 and for a long time as secretary. He was also a member of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Action Committee, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 112. He belonged to the Whitby Curling Club and was a Master the David T. Campbell Masonic Lodge in 1970.
Collins died at Whitby on 1 August 2002 and is buried in Groveside Cemetery, Brooklin. - Date of Original
