Notes
William McCabe was born at Picton, Upper Canada on 12 June 1853. He was principal of the Whitby Grammar School from 1858 to 1863 and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1863. He then served as superintendent in several insurance agencies in the US.

He returned to Canada in 1870 and spent three years as manager of the Confederation Life Association. He later became managing director of the North American Life Assurance Company, a position he held until his death in 1903.

McCabe was president of the Provincial Teachers' Association and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. He was a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Great Britain and the Statistical Society of England.

He died at Toronto on 23 April 1904. He is bried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto.
