- Clayton Dotzert was born in 1896 in Waterloo. His parents were Mary and Valentine Dotzert and his sister was Alberta Mae Dotzert Ewald. In 1913 he joined the 108 Militia Unit at Kitchener and two years later enlisted with the 70th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. While overseas he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and was commissioned a second lieutenant and sent to France. He returned to Waterloo in 1919. In 1927 he joined the Waterloo Young Men's club and helped start the city's first outdoor public skating and hockey rinks in 1929. In 1934 he founded the Waterloo Siskins Junior B hockey team.
Mr. Dotzert also served as postmaster of the City of Waterloo for 25 years, and an alderman from 1928 to 1931. In the late 1950s he was instrumental in having 3000 maple trees planted throughout Waterloo. He died December 6, 1988. - Inscriptions
