- Ellis Little, amateur Waterloo County historian standing with Waterloo Mayor Joan McKinnon on the occasion of Mr. Little being presented with the Waterloo Award on November 6, 2000.

- Ellis Little was born in Monkton, Ontario in 1924 and attended teachers' college in Stratford. He also earned two undergraduate degrees and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto. He taught history and geography at several Waterloo schools before becoming Principal of Alexandra, St. Jacobs and Elizabeth Ziegler Public Schools. Upon retirement at age 55 he spent his time in historical research and was a member of the Waterloo Municipal Heritage Committee and served on the City of Waterloo's Heritage Advisory Committee and the Waterloo Historical Society.
He met his wife, Margaret, while still in school and together they raised three children: Joan, Nancy and Robert. Before he passed away on April 4, 2004 the Waterloo Public Library's local history room was named in his honour. - Date of Original
