Photograph of the storefront of McGowan Appliances at 44 King Street south of Erb Street. Visible are several signs featuring Beatty household appliances, a notice advertising the Waterloo Firemen's Second Annual Ball, and Dominion Fire Prevention Association. Store window on right features a fire prevention display with fire extinguisher, fire hoses and firefighter's helmet. Window on the left features lamps and small appliances. Through the windows can be seen washing machines, ovens, and other appliances.
Notes
Founded in 1874 in Fergus, Ontario, Beatty Bros. Ltd. grew from a small-town manufacturer of farm implements into one of Canada's foremost manufacturers of household appliances. In 1964 it was bought by General Steel Wares.
